Acupuncture

Acupuncture treatment for pain relief and healing at Pulse Physiotherapy clinic in NW Calgary, performed by an experienced ph

Acupuncture is the practice of inserting thin needles into specific points in the body. It is sometimes done with manual or electrical stimulation.  There are two approaches to acupuncture, which sometimes overlap. Traditional Chinese acupuncture is based on a belief that the needles stimulate energy flow in the body. Western medical acupuncture adapts the traditional Chinese approach and applies a scientific method to understand and explain its effects.

Acupuncture produces changes in nerves, muscles, connective tissue (fascia), hormones and circulation. By stimulating specific points, acupuncture releases the body’s own painkillers: endorphins and serotonin. Acupuncture can impact the muscular, skeletal, neurological, digestive, respiratory, urinary and reproductive systems.

If you aren't sure about needles, there are many alternative options to needling including cupping, guasha, dermal acupuncture, acupressure, ear acupuncture, moxibustion, TDP lamp, and other techniques within the scope of the registered acupuncturist.

Children Traditional Chinese Medicine Initial Assessment and Treatment

TCM has a long history of treating pediatric conditions. Children are going through a fast period of growth, yet their internal organ system and immune system are still developing and are unable to support this rapid growth. This makes children susceptible to a variety of problems. TCM excels at strengthening weak systems and correcting body imbalances.  A combination of acupuncture and non-needle techniques are applied to children to treat digestive issues, asthma, allergies, colds, flus, infections, growing pain, bed wetting, anxiety, depression, ADHD, headaches, painful or irregular menstruation, etc. Children are very responsive to acupuncture points and meridians, so when needles are used a minimal amount of time is required. Children may be frightened of the needles at first, but when they realize that the needling is done without pain, they love it! During the treatment, parents are taught home care through massage, acupressure, diet, and lifestyle changes.

Facial Beauty Acupuncture Initial Assessment and Treatment

The face has a direct connection to our internal organs and mirrors our mental, emotional, and physical health. Facial acupuncture is a result-oriented treatment that awakens the skin and senses, by activating cellular repair, improving fine lines, complexion, skin texture; leaving you with a more sculpted profile and a unparalled glow that comes from within. Clinical body acupuncture will be incorporated to address internal causes of aging and organ imbalances, which often manifest on the face during the same treatment session.

A series of 10-12 treatments is recommended for best results. We will avoid facial areas treated with Botox and fillers for at least 3 weeks.
